Distribution substations, underground cable systems, overhead lines and street lighting — engineered, installed, tested and energised by a contractor approved to work on live TAQA networks.

The electrical division is the core of the business. We design, build, test and maintain distribution networks across Abu Dhabi, and we work under permit on energised systems. TAQA Distribution issues those permits only to contractors whose engineers hold its competency cards.

Scope of works

What we self-perform

  • Distribution substations — construction, supply and installation of switching stations, RMUs and packaged substations
  • LV, MV and HV power cables up to 33 kV, including cable support systems, ducts and protection slabs
  • Cable jointing and termination to 33 kV — aluminium, copper and transition joints, plug-in terminations, live LV terminations
  • Overhead line works — 11 kV and 22 kV construction, relocation and dismantling
  • Distribution and power transformers, dry and oil type, up to 33 kV
  • Earthing systems for distribution and primary substations, including refurbishment and emergency works
  • Street lighting and traffic signals — poles, LED luminaires, feeder pillars, foundations and relocation works
  • Fibre optic networks and low-current systems — fire alarm, ICT, security and CCTV
  • Testing and commissioning with our own calibrated equipment — VLF, partial discharge, insulation resistance, transformer turns ratio and protection relay testing
  • Long-term running agreements for emergency and corrective maintenance of distribution networks
